Overview

Air Today is an ambient air quality app for iOS developed by Owen McLoughlin. This privacy policy explains what information the app accesses, how it is used, and your choices regarding that information.

What Data Is Collected

Air Today does not collect any personal data. The app does not require an account, does not use analytics or tracking frameworks, and does not serve advertisements.

The app may access the following information on your device:

Location (optional): If you grant permission, the app uses Apple's Core Location framework to determine your current location and show nearby air quality data. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in Settings. The app works without location access — you can search for and save locations manually.
Saved locations: You can save up to 6 locations within the app. These are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted to any server.

How Data Is Used

Your location, when provided, is used solely to request air quality readings from the World Air Quality Index (WAQI) API for the area near you. The location is sent directly from your device to the WAQI API as part of the data request — it does not pass through any server owned or operated by the developer.

Saved locations and preferences are stored on-device using standard iOS storage. Data is shared between the app, its widget, and Live Activity through an App Group container — all of which remain local to your device.

Third-Party Services

Air Today uses the World Air Quality Index (WAQI) API to retrieve air quality data. When the app fetches air quality information, it sends a network request that includes the coordinates or name of the location you are viewing. This request goes directly from your device to the WAQI service.

The WAQI API is operated by the World Air Quality Index project. Their use of data is governed by their own privacy policy, available at aqicn.org/privacy.

Air Today does not integrate any other third-party services, SDKs, analytics platforms, or advertising networks.

Data Retention

Since no personal data is collected or transmitted to the developer, there is nothing to retain on our end. Data stored locally on your device (saved locations, preferences) persists until you delete it within the app or uninstall the app.

Data Sharing

Air Today does not share your data with anyone. There is no server-side storage, no user database, and no data broker relationships. Your information stays on your device.

Children's Privacy

Air Today does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). Since the app does not collect personal data from any user, it is safe for use by people of all ages.

Your Choices

Location access: You can grant, deny, or revoke location permission at any time via iOS Settings > Air Today > Location.
Saved locations: You can remove saved locations within the app at any time.
Delete all data: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date. Because the app does not collect contact information, we cannot notify you directly of changes — we encourage you to review this page periodically.
